Swindon Designer Outlet Centre
This redevelopment launched Swindon Designer Outlet as a key retail destination in the South West. It converted the ‘Long Shop’, built in 1874 as part of the Grade II listed Great Western Railway Works, into new retail space.
The works involves the refurbishment, repair and maintenance to incorporate new retail units, and the archways facing westwards will be opened up to provide shop fronts. It also involved constructing a new ‘heart’ feature. This glazed enclosure sits adjacent to the Long Shop and was constructed within the existing service yard to include more retail units.
The redevelopment was completed in multiple phases with complex and heavy time pressure driven target dates. Due to the heritage of the building and its listed status, the works are in keeping with the traditional style.
